The Acer Aspire 5536G presents itself as fully orientated on multimedia. Therefore the glossy Acer CrystalBrite TFT monitor is tailored for the standard 16:9 cinematic format. A combination of a Realtek AL C888 soundcard and a Dolby optimized surround system with two built-in Acer 3DSonic stereo loudspeakers provide for a good sound. Equipped with an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 graphic card and HDMI support, you can also enjoy movies on external monitors in full-HD.

Case

The case, which Safire Blue high-gloss display lid is a real eye-catcher, presents itself in the new Gemstone outfit of the Acer Aspire range. Especially voluminous LED lighting provide for creative highlights, particularly in the area of the on/off button. Above all the power button's LED performance is a bit too strident for our taste and also confusing because the visualization of the various operating modes (on/off, connected to main) are somewhat difficult to tell apart. For instance, it's not easy to establish if the power button has been pressed or not under power supply (the ring around the power connection lights up a bit).

The Original Resource DVD contains all the drivers for 32-bit and 64bit operating systems - Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, user manuals wallpapers and basic software for Acer Aspire 5236, 5536 & 5536G.

Connectivity

Port placement is unfavorable for leftiesPort placement is unfavorable for lefties

The Acer Aspire 5536G might not have an especially generous port configuration, but you do find everything you need for an undemanding office and gaming utilization on the notebook.
To this count a total of four USB 2.0 ports, a LAN, a VGA and a HDMI port. In opposition to the manufacturer's information, the test device didn't have an Expresscard/54 slot.

Acer would like to ensure extensive mobility with the new "Timeline" models. This is implemented through the form of an especially flat case, as well as through above-average battery life. Thanks to energy-saving hardware components, a high-capacity battery, and last but not least the "PowerSmart" function, battery life of more than 9 hours can be realized. Find out here what else the attractive 14" has to offer.

The Original Resource DVD contains all the drivers for 32-bit and 64bit operating systems - Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, user manuals wallpapers and basic software for Acer Aspire 4810T, 4810TZ and 4410T.

Design

If Piano Black was the style statement of recent years in televisions, computing and portable devices, then it's quickly being replaced with metallic tones. Acer's Aspire Timeline 4810T is a case in point, decked out in dark brushed aluminium with equally black offset keys. The 4810T is the middle child of the Timeline series, with a 15.6-inch model and smaller 13-inch model surrounding it. Where previous Acer models have tended to a thicker, almost bubble-like design ideal, the Timelines are all sleek and thin, putting them firmly in the ultraportable notebook market.

Features

If you were capable of tearing the 4810T apart with your bare hands, you'd probably be the Incredible Hulk. Also, you'd be AU$1699 poorer. That aside, you'd find a Core 2 Solo U3500 1.4GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics with a paltry 64MB of its own memory — although it will dip into slightly more than a gigabyte of system memory as needs permit. An 8x DVD-Super Multi double-layer drive nestles very neatly down the right-hand side, while on the ports front you get three USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, VGA and Ethernet ports. Wireless networking is provided with support for 802.11n. Our review sample came with a 320GB Western Digital 3200BEVT Scorpio hard drive, although there's also the option for internal SSD placement.

Performance

The Aspire 4810T's benchmark scores came in with a PCMark 05 score of 2005 and 3DMark 06 score of 630. The results didn't surprise us — the Core Solo used is more notable for being a low power part than a high performance one — but there's more to the Aspire 4810T than that. For a start, it's running Windows Vista. In case you've been hiding under a rock for the past couple of years, Vista isn't exactly kind to low powered systems. Heck, it's not exactly complementary to high powered systems, but at the lower grunt end of the spectrum, you're much more likely to notice its slowness. Testing with simple tasks with the 4810T, we quickly became highly annoyed with Vista. That isn't anything new of course, but as you're stuck with Vista, Vista or Vista at the time of writing, it's a limitation you'll have to live with.

KMPlayer 3.5

KMPlayer 3.5

KMPlayer 3.5

The KMPlayer is a versatile media player which can cover various types of container format such as VCD, DVD, AVI, MKV, Ogg Theora, OGM, 3GP, MPEG-1/2/4, WMV, RealMedia, and QuickTime among others.

KMPlayer handles a wide range of subtitles and allows you to capture audio, video, and screenshots in many ways.

The player provides both internal and external filters with a fully controlled environment in terms of connections to other splitters, decoders, audio/video transform filters and renderers without grappling with the DirectShow merit system. Internal filters are not registered to user's system to keep it from being messed up with system filters.

The KMPlayer includes almost all the essential decoders required for media playback. Furthermore, to get beyond the limitation of internal decoders, the external ones such as commercial h.264 decoders or cyberlink/intervideo audio decoders can be specified, so that KMP works optimally by the users' own customization. Even though the KMP is based upon directshow structure, it supports Winamp, Realmedia and Quicktime by the internal logic. Thus, it is possible to specify where to try to connect firstly the media in preferences.

In short, the player provides a strong hybrid structure efficient for interconnecting various directshow filters, winamp input&dsp plugin, and internal filters. The most outstanding feature is that the player has the full control of filter connections to prevent a media playback from being messed.

The player can set multifarious audio and video effects, slow down or increase playback speed with regular tone, select parts of a video as favorites, do an exceptionally powerful A-B repeat, remap the keys of remote interface for HTPC including overlay screen controls, change a skin dynamically depending on a media type playing, and many more. It is completely customizable thanks to a wide selection of skins and color schemes, and the configuration options are extremely extensive.

Important Note:

- KMPlayer installer is bundled with "Web Search Bar". However, you may continue the installation process without installing it.

How to Turn on the PC Power Supply Without a Motherboard

How to Turn on the PC Power Supply Without a Motherboard

How to Turn on the PC Power Supply Without a Motherboard

You can turn on your PC power supply without the use of the motherboard by creating a jumper between the appropriate wires on the power supply plug. This can be beneficial if you want to add a second power supply to your computer of simply if you need to test the power supply without a computer. Dubbed the "paperclip trick," this task is one you can perform in only a few minutes.

Things You'll Need

*Paperclip
*Electrical tape
*Wire cutters (optional)

Instructions

1 Turn off your computer and disconnect all cables from the back of your system.

2 Turn the switch on the back of the power supply (back of the computer) to the "O" or "Off" setting. Note that "I" is the "On" setting.

3 Open the computer case and unplug the ATX power connector that runs from the power supply to the motherboard. You can easily recognize the ATX power connector by the many colored wires connected to a large plastic 20 or 24 pin connector.

4 Bend a normal paperclip into a "U" shape. Do not use an insulated paperclip.

5 Locate the green and black wires that run to the plastic ATX power connector. Insert one end of the paperclip into the green wire connector and the other into the black wire next to it. Note that your power supply might have two black wires. These are ground wires and you should connect the paperclip to the black wire immediately next to the green wire.

6 Wrap the end of the power connector, including the paper clip, in electrical tape. Ensure that you cover the entire paper clip and power connector, as they will conduct electricity when you switch the power supply on.

7 Plug the power supply back into the wall outlet. Turn the switch on the back of the power supply to the "I" or "On" setting and the power supply will power on and run until you turn the switch on the back of the unit off again.

Compatible Laser Toner Cartridge – Built like the OEM Cartridge or not?

Compatible Laser Toner Cartridge – Built like the OEM Cartridge or not?

Compatible Laser Toner Cartridge – Built like the OEM Cartridge or not?

In terms of size and shape, you won’t see any marked difference between the OEM toner cartridge and the compatible laser toner cartridge because both units are intended to fit into the cartridge compartment of a particular printer. Thus, allowing it to snap perfectly for easy loading and retrieval. However, there could be differences with regards to toner powder supplied.
In the intent of not breaching pertinent copyright laws, compatible laser toner cartridge formulations must be poles apart from the OEM toner and yet produce the same quality prints for its output.

Nonetheless, the imaging components used for both cartridges are likely similar. Dismantling a cartridge will actually reveal this fact. This has likely to do with economics since you cannot expect a giant printer manufacturer like HP to invest its resources in the manufacture of ALL components used in the production of HP toner cartridges.

Outsourcing is the new game for manufacturers where a qualified supplier that can provide the most affordable pricing for components gets the supply reward. So consider this: The housing, printer components and print engine of HP toner cartridges are all sourced out from Canon. Cartridge design must be compatible with engine design and this explains the abovementioned supplier – buyer arrangement between Canon and HP. In retrospect, the imaging components of toner cartridges are supplied by independent manufacturers who are able to meet the operational standards and efficiencies of the printer manufacturer. As each supplier is proven to specialize on a particular supplied component, expect the ensuing product to have the best reliability rating at the least cost to the printer manufacturer.

So in a nutshell, the specialty parts supplier for OEM toner cartridges like the HP toner cartridges could also be the same source for parts built into the compatible laser toner cartridge. Below are a few of the toner cartridge components that are typically outsourced by printer manufacturers:

*Developer Roller
*Doctor Blade
*Primary Charge Roller (PCR)
*OPC Drum
*Wiper Blade
*Drum Shutter

Even if outsourced components are of the best quality, credit still goes to the various laboratories that provide the technical edge in the assembly of toner cartridges. In conclusion, the imaging components used for the OEM toner cartridge and the compatible laser toner cartridge is likely the same so that no marked difference exists in the size, shape and internal mechanisms of OEM and aftermarket toner cartridges.

Introduction

During the printing process, media, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the product. Over time, this buildup can cause print quality problems, such as toner specks or smearing, and paper jams. To correct and prevent these types of problems, you can clean the print cartridge area, pickup roller, and the printer media path.

How to Reset an Expired HP Print Cartridge

How to Reset an Expired HP Print Cartridge

When your HP printer’s cartridge expires, you can use it again after refilling it. That way, you can save money. You can continue using the old cartridge until the printing quality starts deteriorating. However, once you refill it, the cartridge will only work after the cartridge chip is reset. There are contacts on the HP cartridge’s back that are programmed to detect the ink level, but they are unable to reset on their own when you refill the cartridge. So here's how to reset the expired HP print cartridge manually.

Things You'll Need

•Adhesive tape
•2 old cartridges

Instructions

1. Insert the refilled HP cartridge into the printer. Print an alignment page. The printer will not recognize the refilled ink level of the cartridge and will show the ink level as it was before the refill.

2. Take the refilled cartridge out of the printer. Insert one of the old cartridges. Print another alignment page using this cartridge. The printer will recognize it as another cartridge.

3. Take the old cartridge out of the printer and insert the other old cartridge. Print another alignment page. The printer will then recognize this cartridge and will not retain the memory of the first (refilled) cartridge that you used.

4. Locate the contacts on the top-left corner of the refilled HP cartridge. Apply an adhesive tape on these contacts. Now put the cartridge back and print an alignment page. Take the cartridge out again and remove the adhesive tape that you put on the left corner. Now, tape over the top-right contacts, just like you did before, and print another alignment page.

5. Take off all pieces of the tape and put the cartridge back inside the printer without any tape. The cartridge will then be recognized by your printer as full.

Laserjets 5P, 6P, 2100, 2200 and other printers that do not have a display panel (LEDs only).
These models are designed as low volume personal printers and do not have a maintenance count that needs to be reset or a readily accessible service mode. You can cold reset these printers or completely reinitialize the NVRAM (nonvolatile ram) to factory defaults. Cold resetting will reset most of the system parameters to factory defaults and reinitializing the NVRAM will reset ALL system parameters to the factory defaults. Also, there is a service mode for these printers but it is only accessible through software using PJL service mode commands. Buy the printer's service manual if you want to learn more.

HP Laserjet 5L, 6L, 1100, 1200 do not have a service mode. You can only perform a cold-reset and continuous self-test.

Multifunction printers - printers/copiers/fax/scanners (e.g. HP 3100, 3150, 3200, etc.)

Service modes in these printers are more extensive because of the scanning and faxing features. We recommend buying the service manual for these units if you will be doing any repairs beyond mechanical components.

How to Disable Ink Detect on an Epson

When you install the full version of an Epson printer's software and drivers on a computer, you install an ink level detector as part of the printer's software package. This ink level indicator measures how much ink has been dispensed by the different ink cartridges, giving you alerts when one of the cartridges is low or out of ink. If you use a refilled Epson ink cartridge or a cartridge not made by Epson, the ink level software displays a warning message each time you print, telling you the cartridge is out of ink.

Instructions

*Install the refilled ink cartridge into the printer and close the cover. Do not try to print until you disable the ink level software.

*Click on the computer's "Start" or Windows button, located on the left side of the task bar. Click on "Control Panel" and the "Printers" option, then right-click on the Epson printer's icon.

*Click on "Properties" or "Preferences" in the menu that pops up. Click on the tab labeled "Maintenance," and then click on the "Speed and Progress" button at the bottom of the window.

However, the cartridge chip or the ink counter on the printer may need to be reset periodically. Cartridge resetters are available from many refill ink suppliers; the ink waste counter on Canon printers can also be reset manually.

Instructions

1. Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord and disconnect the USB cable from the computer.

2. Press and hold the "Power" and "Resume" buttons and plug the power cord into the outlet to begin printer initialization.

3. Release the "Power" button (while still holding down the "Resume" button) and then press and hold the "Power" button to activate test mode.

4. Release the "Power" and "Resume" buttons to activate service mode. Wait for the lights to stop flashing.

5. Press the "Resume" button to cycle through the settings until the message "Reset waste ink counter" or "Ink count" is displayed (press three or four times). If "Ink count" is displayed, press the "0" button to reset.

6. Press the "Set" or "OK" button and then turn the printer off and unplug the power cord. For some Bubble Jet printers, press the "Cartridge" button if prompted on the display to reset the ink counter.

7. Plug the power cord into the outlet, plug the USB cable into the computer and turn the printer on.

Scrached CD's - an Easy, Cheap Way to Repair Them

Scrached CD's - an Easy, Cheap Way to Repair Them

Scrached CD's - an Easy, Cheap Way to Repair Them

In this tutorial I will show you how to repair scratched CDs that are giving you errors such as Mismatching CRCs, Read Errors, Sync Errors and Suspicious Positions. If you do it properly, your scratched CDs should then give you perfect rips with matching CRCs. Even badly scratched CDs can be repaired, as long as the reflective layer (label side) is not damaged.

Before you do it on an original CD, I suggest you practice on an old (badly) scratched CD-R first.
Whatever you do, do NOT buy the cd repair kits. They’re too expensive and pretty bad at doing what they’re supposed to do. When you’re done repairing, you’ll see light scratches on the CD. Don’t worry, they are way too small to affect playback or ripping in any way. If you want to get rid of them for aesthetic reasons, you can use finer grain sandpaper.

Specs
—————–
For this tutorial I used a cd my girlfriend brought from work and wanted me ro repair: This Is Tom Jones by Tom Jones. It’s actually a boxset where the 3 cds were extremely scratched; they would skip like crazy when played in the cd player and were impossible to rip. After repairing them, all 3 cds (74 songs) are ripping perfectly with all CRCs matching.
I’ve used EAC V0.99 prebeta 4 on a TOSHIBA ODD-DVD SD-R6372 drive. Rip in Secure mode, proper Read Offset Correction, Test & Copy. High error recovery quality.

What you need:
—————–
- 1 scratched CD ( or more ) :-)
- 3 to 10 minutes
- A bottle of Meguiar’s PlastX (clear plastic cleaner & polish).
- Emery paper: 1500 or 2000 Grit. I use the 3M Wetordry Automotive Sandpaper.
- A piece of cloth. I use an old scarf. You can use an old t-shirt, sock, towel..
- A piece of paper towel.
- Warm water

You can find the emery paper and the PlastX bottle at your local auto supply store. I bought my stuff at Canadian Tire and paid 10.49$ for the 296ml PlastX bottle and 2.99$ for five 3.66 inches by 9 inches sheets of emery paper. With that, you’ll have enough to fix over a hundred CDs.

Repairing
—————–
First, cut a small piece of emery paper, 1 inch by 1 inch will do, and you will be able to do a few CDs with that.

Soak it in warm water, and put a little bit of water on the cd with your finger.

Start sanding the cd in the motion shown below. This is for a badly scratched cd, you don’t have to do the whole cd if there are only a few scratches. Just do it where the scratches are.

Put a little bit of pressure when you’re sanding. When you think you’re done and scratches are gone, keep sanding but don’t put any pressure to get rid of the (small) scratches you may have done. I use the 1500 grit for sanding with pressure, and the 2000 grit without pressure to finish off.

Rinse the CD with warm water and dry it out with a paper towel.

Now, put a few drops of PlastX on the cd and polish it with a small piece of cloth until the PlastX gets absorbed by the cloth. To polish the whole surface, I put about 6 drops wich is more than enough.

Rinse the CD with warm water and dry it out with a paper towel.

Now the shiny surface of your CD should be shiny again. Look really close to see if there are any scratches left. If there are, you didn’t sand enough; repeat sanding and polishing.

Your CD should now rip properly.

Example
—————–
The picture below shows a scratched CD before and after being repaired. I used rough sandpaper to scratch it, and then repaired it. The pictures show the SAME CD and the EXACT SAME AREA on the CD. I didn’t switch CDs, photoshop it, or anything.
